AttractionsIf you're a serious hiker or climber, you'll find expert advice and guidance for your treks. If you want a pleasant walk, opportunities abound amongst the diverse natural flora and bird life. The Park is a U.N. World Heritage Site, both for it's natural beauty and San (Bushman) rock art paintings and you'll be able to explore both from Inkosana.Hiking's not the only thing to do at Inkosana. Many guests enjoy the horse riding and white water rafting. The area also features renowned craft centers, sport facilities and the world famous Drakensberg Boy's Choir. Easy access by car to many historical battlefield sites. In addition to hiking, 'things to do' in the Drakensberg include horse riding, river rafting, Ardmore Craft Studios, golf, battlefields tours & game reserves. Horse Riding Horse riding for different level's of experience can be arranged in the valley. For the more adventurous, a half day ride to view a Bushman Rock Art is arranged by Ushaka Horse Trails. At Spioenkop Game Reserve you may ride among the animals. River Rafting, Carting and Golf An excellent opportunity exists for rafting in the Drakensberg region during the summer months. Four Rivers Rafting runs day trips on the Little Tugela in two man boats on rapids up to Grade 4. Transport is provided from the valley and the day ends with a braai. The same company also runs off-road go-carting and 4x4 rides. Additionally, there are two golf courses close to Inkosana Lodge. Craft Studios and Shops The Champagne Valley is home to Ardmore Ceramic Studios, famous for brightly painted ethnic works. Kwa Zulu Weavers feature a wide array of wonderful carpets and tapestries. You may tour their factory and view them at work. Apart from these, there are numerous arts and craft shops of a high standard, like MG Traders and the Thokozisa center. Drakensberg Boys Choir This unusual school which neighbors Inkosana Lodge is home for students from all over southern Africa. The school is founded totally on music, and is internationally renowned. There are Wednesday afternoon concerts in term. Historical Battlefields Many of the Anglo-Boer and Zulu War battlefields are in this area. By car, it's an hour's drive to Spioenkop, Colenso, and Ladysmith. A little further are the sites of Rorke's Drift, Isandlwana, and Blood River. Guided tours may be arranged.

TGCSA Star Grading FacilitiesInkosana is quite well known in the backpacking community for it's meals. Breakfasts (R50) are served on the veranda with views of the mountain peaks, and begin with seasonal fresh fruit, yoghurt, and juice. A selection of cereals and porridge is offered, followed by scrambled eggs and either bacon or sausage. Dinners (R85) are even more substantial, featuring a main course, a number of side dishes, salads, homemade bread, and a desert. Special provision is made for vegetarians. A self-catering kitchen's is provided if you want to prepare your own food and the Lodge has three braai / barbecue areas. Tea and coffee are complimentary and the dishwashing is done by the staff periodically. There are shops close by to buy food supplies. For those who want to eat out, the area also has a number of good restaurants. DirectionsInkosana is in the Champagne Valley of the Central Drakensberg. The nearest town is Winterton. If coming by car, Inkosana is 4 hours from Johannesburg, 2.5 hours from Durban, and 1 hour from Ladysmith. Roads are all paved. * From Johannesburg, take the N3 to Harrismith, then the N5 (the Bethlehem Road) and in a short distance, turn onto the R712 (towards Qwa-Qwa). Take the R74 to Bergville and continue on to Winterton. Turn onto the R600 towards the mountains, Inkosana is 25 km from Winterton. * From Durban, take the N3 to exit 179 (Estcourt north), exit left, away from Estcourt and towards Loskop. Continue until coming to the R600 (the Thokozisa restaurant) and turn left. Inkosana is 12 km onwards. * From Ladysmith, take the N11 and turn left on the R600 to Winterton. Continue 25 km on the R600 to Inkosana.
